I was reading review on imdb that said this was a sequel to "God of Gamblers" (Du shen (1989)) and "All for the Winner" (Du sheng (1990)) so all the characters were returning characters.
Note: Chow Yun Fat is not actually in this film. They used some clips from the original film that show him.
Another note: There is also a movie called Du shen xu ji (1994)which is sometimes billed as "God of Gamblers 2" or "God of Gamblers Returns". That one does have Chow Yun Fat reprising ihis role.
