Extreme Violent Images Unexpected & Very Shocking

star44

Well Besides the Shock of Extremely Cruel and Perverted Sadistic Violent Images and Acts...I did enjoy many things about this movie...yet I honestly feel that the movie makers could have told the story and gotten the point across without adding in the over the top guts and blood and gore and extreme torturous death scenes in this movie. I still feel traumatized by the scenes in this movie and the very beginning torture scene is the worst of all.

Thus the movie maker gets your guts in a knot from the onset of the movie. I am not sure of the rating of this movie...yet parents beware....(I recall seeing violent movies when I was a teenager that had imagery that still haunts me today....this film is similar...way too graphic in about four scenes)

Other than that....I did enjoy the story, the acting, the sets, the music...all in all a great movie. I was really looking forward to seeing this movie...and there are many awesome parts of this movie that I really enjoyed....yet unfortunately the extreme violent scenes are too overbearing and take away a lot of the pleasure from the rest of the film....(I sure wish they could have edited some of the gore...yet I guess it could have been worse)

Emma Stone was stellar and Josh Gosling was also really great. Sean Penn was amazing considering the role that he had to play. Also the fighting scenes are amazing...how do they create such intense dynamic physical fighting scenes? I also like how some of the shots reminded me of comic book perspectives with the angles of the shots and the overall layout of the scenes. There are bits of quirky comedy that go along with some of the characters and their roles in the film.

I wonder how much of this story is really related to a real person and something that really happened in LA in the 40s.
I guess I will have to do some googling on that.

During this movie, I was on the edge of my seat about 80% of the time...it definitely is a high stress kind of movie...unfortunately that opening scene made it so terrifying that my guts will still feel sick for many days and years to come.

If it wasn't for the shocking stuff I would have given this film five stars.
