In the passing of many years and subsequent viewings of this fantastically historical epic, I am still captivated and massively impressed everytime I've seen this incredible masterpiece. Scorsese's capture of 1860's New York is one of the most incredible things I've ever seen and focusing on the ordeals of the Irish people for a change was very refreshing. Scorsese's direction appears to be pretty much flawless here and the visual imagery is stunning. The opening confrontation between the "Natives" and the "Irish" is one of the most memorable cinematic scenes ever. Daniel Day-Lewis gives a performance for the ages and Leonardo DiCaprio and the rest of the cast really seem to benefit from Scorsese's masterful guidance. Truly a near perfect film if there ever was one. Final grade- A to A+...
