If you're searching for a movie about a hero you and your kids can look up to, this isn't that movie. Denzel is a hero, but not the hero I was thinking about going into the movie. I'm glad I didn't watch the previews and just went and watched it. Denzel had a similar performance to how he did in Training Day, which was worthy of an Academy Award.
It's a roller coaster of emotions for how you're suppose to feel about this character, you hate him, then love him, then feel sorry for him, then wish he'd just die. All that meaning the acting was superb!
Great movie other than the overly done alcoholic issues, we get he's an alcoholic, we didn't need to overdue it to prove that point but they did. Thought the relationship with the girl had no resolution but he got what he deserved. He chose the right thing to do at the end but didn't go along with the character he portrayed. Ending could have been better, maybe an alternate ending is on the dvd, who knows.
But is very good and will leave you thinking, so job well done.
