While I have to admit when I first seen this film it was merely because I was a Colin Firth fan. However, a few years later and it is one of my favourites for many other reasons. It is a love story that is less than perfect. The execution of the=is story meant that the main character Paul(Colin Firth) comes off as unbelivably immature. He is a school teacher with a sports obsession (namely Arsenal) who forms a relationship with Sarah (Ruth Gemmell) who has a thing for english teachers who have read Byron's poetry.
This film shows a love story in a subtle way the way that it happens in real life. The pace is slow but it is livened up by Holly Aird who utters the immortal line "Men are like bloody missionairies, they bore you stupid until you cave in and then they f**k off!" Classic. Mark Strong also impresses as Paul's best friend.
A very worthwhile watch even if it is just to see Colin Firth playing a character that showwcases his talent.
