It's been many years since I saw this movie, but when it got re-released for the 20th anniversary, I just had to pick it up. It looks amazingly clear, though at times the picture is a little dark in the park scenes. Also It's not in widescreen? That seems a bit odd to me. The release comes with 2 versions of the film, the original release, and the 2002 version, which has an extra scene with ET in the bathtub, looking all CG and cute. Also, they did add a lot more facial expressions to him in several scenes, and made the night lighting more dynamic in the sky. There are just a few minor touchups that would make anyone wonder why do they include both versions. Either way, they both have the bonuses which show tons of footage on the set and show Spielberg very young. I was quite amazed with the quality of that footage, looking like it was shot yesterday. It's a shame there weren't any outtakes or deleted scenes though. Other than that, the extras were fairly decent.
It's intresting to watch a movie as an adult because there were a few things when you saw it as a kid that you didn't understand, that your parents laughed at, but you didn't. If you haven't seen this movie in a long time, I suggest you give it a viewing. It is definitely among one of the best movies ever.
