Empire of the Sun(1987)- User Reviews

The 2-star raters (in a sea of mostly 5-star ratings) obviously missed the plot. This isn't a Bruckheimer joint, and it's a shame that they apparently overlooked the qualities of this film that make it so powerful. I can't say enough about the unique script and talented cast who carried it out (especially Bale, who was around 13 years old when it was made).

This movie is raw in it's own way and tells such an amazing story. Don't let the (very few) Spielberg-bashers among these reviewers scare you away. If you want to get immersed in a gripping, detailed, sometimes emotional story, give this one a shot. If you want your entertainment spoon-fed to you, watch a cartoon.
