The movie was historically accurate, too many movies depart so much from the actual facts. Tommy Lee Jones was well matched for the part of General MacArthur.

I've seen the documentaries on the History Channel regarding the end of WW2-Pacific. This movie is woven around those events, when the Japanese military refused to surrender, but the Emperor capitulated, even after an attack on the Palace.
