I enjoyed this movie for the cast -- I've been collecting Ian McKellen films. So yes, it was enjoyable, but in a mild kind of way. Serious issues were presented -- issues of abandonment being the major theme -- and they were addressed but in a non-dramatic, mild way. I enjoyed it overall, but again, nothing too serious or dramatic, if that's what you're looking for.
