Agreed w/ OP. This movie hung in the air with a style that reminded you of a feeling you only got on "those nights". I guess it is a separation of the ages of things people respond to, but you had to be there (late 70's early 80's, or at least be able to get the vibe of them) to get this movie. Born late 80's still remember the feeling of the music. If you don't like - don't watch but don't try to assume you get it at all. The music was hypnotic, love it! The movie posters: very sexy, and I don't even like Gossling.

Off topic Kids 1990 and forward have been exposed to too much tech. It makes them really bored with everything it seems. Tech gives me migrains.

I don't even think this movie will get pirated.. It's soo bad. I rather watch the notebook, and I hated that to. Stare at the dog taking a crap was more entertaining.

I have a great life and believe me I've enjoyed the movie a lot...it's a first movie in a long time I have watched a few times in a row...and in your case I'd rather stay with Fast & Furious.

Btw: don't look into other people's life cause it make u look like u don't have any...have a good life all...

I'm glad I only spent a dollar for this movie. It was a weak remake of the 1970s film The Driver starring Ryan O'Neil.Check out The Driver's chase scenes on You Tube.

I'm tired of people who adore this movie pretending that anyone who doesn't equally adore it "missed" something. I got it all. Understood it loud and clear. And the genre, the styling, the long stares, the lack of dialog, the lack of character arc, the anti-hero with the unknown background....these are all things I love to watch. But I also need to have some semblance of a story, and the story in this movie is paper thin at best. Cranston's character is an overly expository (forced) joke, the mobsters are laughable, the love story is forced quickly, and the romantic partners have zero chemistry. To get more specific, the Driver is so savvy and streetwise, yet he turns his back on Albert Brooks to be stabbed? And why wear the mask at the pizzeria when they already know who he is? Like many other things in this movie, the answer is: for purely visual effect. He's so concerned with the well-being of the mother and kid, yet he still gives his spiel to the would be pawn robber about how he'll leave him high and dry in five minutes.

What I'm sorry for is that all the art house, indy lovers who are fawning over this movie are perfectly capable of analyzing it and finding the gaping holes in the story, but are unwilling to.

you are certainly entitled to your opinion, no fun league. I partially agree with some of your critiques but the things I liked.......I liked a helluva lot. I can also watch MANY universally-regarded great movies and point out things that don't make sense or are poorly done.

so, mask at pizza place? if I was going to murder someone who knew who I was I'd probably like to look like someone else as well. not sure why you'd use that as an example.

spiel about only waiting 5 minutes? that's just the way he works........waiting any longer is too dangerous, apparently. him helping at all at for no fee shows quite a bit of care, in my opinion.

love story forced quickly? lol.....it's hardly a love story and isn't meant to be. there are only feelings starting to develop and that's all it has to be. one can only guess, but I would assume the driver has had a very cold life with little or no affection (especially with women)......explaining why he'd say his time with her and the kid was the best thing that happened to him. I like this part of his character.

..........anyway, if you don't like the movie it doesn't mean you're wrong or you are blind. it's your opinion and that's fine.

I'm going to be brutally honest. Don't waste one dime seeing this movie. The best part of this movie was then end. I rather be watered boarded then to have to watch such a waste of film.

One of the slowest paced films in many a year. The pauses are copius, ubiqutous and interminable..... so overdone they become meaningless. Pause..... stare........... stare....... stare some more, and finally say:..........."yes". Of Lordy, it is painful to watch such overindulgence broken by brief moments of fleeting action before returning to more endless pauses and stares and frowns and on and on and on. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

The movie was great and even the ending was great. You have to keep in mind what he told the girl. He said he probably wouldn't be coming back, possibly to protect her in that way. I wanted to see them end up together as well.

This movie is right up there with... oh wait; no one should want to remember this movie, nor the complete and utter dumbfounding effect it has on its gullible viewers that got duped into watching it. The trailer gave it the possibility of being appealing, and the opening scene gave you the slight thought it could have potential, then... pause... nothing... The writers must've said to the actors before filming that they would have few lines to memorize, and to leave the rest of the film to the director so that he could attempt to create something "artistic", but really only ended up being awkward moments of elongated silence with a slew of cinematic effects and loud obnoxious music that should've stayed in the 80's films they were derived from.

wow Ryan Gosling, why!? The movie lacked stimulation & substance. *yawn* makes me tired mentioning the movie.

This was a great movie. It is a surreal action flick. Sort of like Micheal Mann's Thief, but more surreal. It wasn't supposed to be like real life, but more like opera of violence and suspense. It had me hooked, and on the edge of my seat. The mood of the film stayed with me for quite some time. Definitely will have to see again.
