WATCHED IT TWICE

Well it seems the original review I wrote didn't get posted. Anyways this is a fantastic movie. Jamie Foxx and DiCaprio's acting is sensational. I really appreciated the subtleties in the cinematography. Like when the bright red blood was spilled on the cotton. Very provocative. Loved how Q.T. didn't use too much dialog explaining certain historical realities of slavery.
Some people call this a spaghetti western. Well the setting is in Texas and during the Alamo slavery was going on. This movie is a stylized version of bits and pieces from American history. Jamie Foxxs' character could have been based on Nat Turner and his gang.
I wasn't going to watch this movie because of the scathing comments from Spike Lee. Now I am glad I did. I like this movie more than Roots.

There are brutal grotesque scenes in this movie, but that was how slavery was. I wish Q.T. included scenes of slaves in the tobacco fields. This movie will be a classic in time.
