Django Unchained(2012)- User Reviews

It is a movie that glorifies over the top violence that is intended to make the audience cringe (between killings and painful screams of victims), induce squirm factor with in your face violence (not just with guns), but with the explicit use foul and degrading language and bloody images (eg. vicious dogs chewing up a slave, slaves bludgeoning themselves to death to entertain their masters). This is really not entertainment !

But the movie has very strong performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel Jackson and particularly Christoph Waltz - they were amazing. But the story meanders too long - and after a while i kept wondering, where is this going? The movie could have made a bigger impact if it were shortened considerably. There's also minimal effort in building the audience understanding of the characters and their motivations. The real focus was on the historical satire and blood fest. The violence was unsettling and pointless !!

I liked Tarantino's movies from before like the Inglorious Basterds and Pulp Fiction but this one doesn't do it for me.

Watch another movie instead !
