DELIVERANCE DELIVERS!

It's hard to believe that this amazing film is thirty-five (+) years old. It is not one bit dated, and still packs in the chills and suspense galore. A masterfully and artfully directed and acted piece of cinema, it follows four city slickers (headed by alpha male Burt Reynolds in a star-making turn) who take an ill-fated cane trip down a river that is on the verge of being dammed up, thus forever ruined. What they don't count on, though, are the locals.
This film is STILL influencing today's far inferior horror films about backwoods folk. Just ask Ned Beatty ("Squeal like a pig!") and Jon Voight ("You sure got a pretty mouth"). In fact, Ned Beatty, to this day, still doesn't like to talk about THAT scene. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you don't know what you're missing. So rent this one. And see.
