Yes Sparks novels and stories are annoying in all the ways that all those mysterious yet deadly disease films were in the 40s and 50s. If you can get past all that and suspend your distaste of such stories, then this is actually a fairly engaging little movie. Amanda Seyfried has at least one pretty good scene.
