Without even comparing this dreg of a movie to the original series. it lacks originality, feminine beauty, and yes, even acting ability. The plot is slow in spots and overwrought with sophmoric effort to provide camp humor. Even the attempt to capture 1972 fashion and decor is off. One scene Barnabas comments on The Carpenters and the song Top of the World. Mind you the scene of Karen singing is from 1973 or 1974 to start with. The song was not popular until Spring of 73 after it was released by a country artist. In the one 15 year old daughter's bedroom there is a poster of Iggy Pop. Sorry, but no 15 yr old female knew he existed in Maine in 1972 which is the time of the film. I doubt many of any age still do. After all, there was no internet and even rebellious 15 females were limited in access to experiment with music. Alice Cooper sings No More Mr Nice Guy. This song is from 1973. This film is merely Tim Burton running through his addled mind and coming up with nearly ok stuff. Overall, it is a waste of time.
