Dancing at Lughnasa

This is an exquisite film, beautifully acted and photographed. In a simple story set in a placid Irish country setting, it reveals the humanity, grace and strength of the five unmarried Mundy sisters. The story is occasionally colored with the poignant and eloquent narrative of Michael, the love child, in his memories of that summer before outside forces changed their lives forever.
The acting, the screenplay, the photography are all superb. Together they create a film that touched me at the deepest human level of love, understanding, and compassion for the characters whose story is told here. The film did what I look for, often unsuccessfuly, in art. It reverberated in me at the most human level of identification. It is truly a work of art.
