This movie is too real. Anything that is painfully real is always controversial, whether you agree with it or not. After all, nobody likes "truth."
Some scenes are appropriately agonizing to watch. Others are just plain dull. You never really know how to feel watching this film. Al Pacino dancing with poppers is oddly entertaining but the murder scenes and other gay visuals are, well, murder.
This film would never be made - or remade. I'm proud the director was brave enough to make this film. I don't always agree with the "truth" he presents in this film, but then, if everybody did, we wouldn't review movies.
