American producer George A. Hirliman entered the film business as a purveyor of raw film stock. In 1927, he sold his laboratory to Consolidated Film Industries Inc. and instead founded Exhibitors Screen Service, which he sold to National Screen Services in 1933. From 1933 to 1935, he functioned as West Coast production executive of Consolidated, supervising all independent film production for the company. In the same vein, Hirliman produced four non-#92;Westerns starring William Boyd to be released by Select Productions, a Consolidated subsidiary, as well as a series of Magnacolor short subjects. He resigned from Consolidated in 1935 to produce Magnacolor or Hirlicolor subjects in Spanish and English for MGM and later became associated with several Poverty Row companies, including Grand National, for whom he produced three #92;Westerns starring Singing Cowgirl Dorothy Page. He was at one point in the 1930s married to starlet Eleanor Hunt, four of whose vehicles he produced. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
