Shiro Toyoda

Japanese director Shiro Toyoda often uses his films to explore the struggle between traditional conformist norms and the notion of individualism and freedom of personal expression. Toyoda entered films as a screenwriter and assistant director to Yasujiro Shimazu at age 19. In the late '20s, he became a full-fledged filmmaker and his career lasted until the late '60s. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
