John Lodge

The grandson of Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, he practised law until he began appearing in films in 1932; usually cast in supporting roles, he had a memorable lead opposite Marlene Dietrich in Von Sternberg's The Scarlet Empress (1934). From 1955-61 he was Ambassador to Spain, and from 1969-73 he was Ambassador to Argentina. In 1979 he was appointed Ambassador to Switzerland. In 1984 he was named a delegate to the United Nations.
