Former manager of Shaw Brothers, the dominant force in Asian film production and distribution from the 1940s through the early 70s. Known as the "Hollywood of the East", the Shaw Empire went into decline following Chow's departure from the company in 1970 to form the rival Golden Harvest group. Chow turned to producing English-language films in 1977.
