Director of acclaimed short fantasy films, notably "The Red Balloon" (1956), who made an unsuccessful foray into features in the 1960s. Lamorisse also invented Helivision, an apparatus enabling filming from a helicopter; he was unfortunately killed in a helicopter crash while filming "Le Vent des amoureux" in Iran in 1970. The film was completed by his widow and released eight years later.
