This svelte leading man of the silent era who ballooned into a pleasingly plump, deep-voiced character actor with the emergence of sound. Capable in both authoritarian and farcical roles, Pallette enjoyed a remarkably prolific career, appearing in hundreds of films through the 1940s. He may be best remembered as the put-upon patriarch in the screwball comedy "My Man Godfrey" (1936).
