Nick Wechsler

Producer who began his career as a lawyer, moving into entertainment as a talent manager for musicians, including The Band's guitarist Robbie Robertson. Wechsler began building a reputation for taking on projects that didn't fall easily into genres. "I have offbeat sensibilities," he has been quoted as saying, "and can find homes for directors that veer in that direction."

In 1985, Wechsler became President of the Motion Picture Division of Northcorp, a company created by Frank Yablans and the Producers Sales Organization. He left Northcorp to develop and produce motion pictures and manage artists. He co-wrote the story for the film "Made in U.S.A." (1986) which was directed by Ken Friedman for Hemdale. He then co-produced Paul Mones "The Beat" (1987) with Julia Phillips and John Kilik for Vestron. For Avenue Entertainment, he developed and co-produced Gus Van Sant's striking "Drugstore Cowboy" (1988) and then served as executive producer on Steven Soderbergh's "sex, lies and videotape" (1989), the surprise winner of the Palm'dor at that year's Cannes Film Festival. Remaining true to form, Wechsler also co-produced Robert Altman's reflexive and darkly satirical "The Player" (1992), and also the offbeat Michael Tolkin-directed "The New Age" (1994).
