Maurice Ronet

The son of professional actors, French film star Maurice Ronet studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where one of his mentors was Jean-Louis Barrault. On the stage from age 20, Ronet made his first film, Rendezvous de Juliet, in 1949. A popular leading man of the 1950s and 1960s, Ronet was a particular favorite of such influential directors as Louis Malle and Claude Chabrol. He turned director himself for two films, Le Voleur de Tibidabo (1964) and Bartleby (1977). Maurice Ronet was the husband of Josephine Chaplin, the youngest daughter of the celebrated Charlie. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
