A former model who has the distinction of being the only woman to have starred in two different James Bond features, Maud Adams earned more publicity for her looks than her acting roles. Yet she was a serious thespian who never sought the "glamour girl" label. Adams made her film debut as a model in the gay-themed "The Boys in the Band" in 1970, but won her first real notice as Andrea, Christopher Lee's sexy accomplice, who seduces Roger Moore's James Bond in "The Man With the Golden Gun" (1974). She and Moore reteamed nearly a decade later for another Bond film, "Octopussy" (1983), in which she was the beautiful title character who eventually turns away from villainy. In the intervening years, Adams carved a moderate niche in rather unchallenging roles in features like "Rollerball" (1975) and "Tattoo" (1981). Like many other former Bond girls, she has never really shaken the image and her subsequent features have been of the direct-to-video thriller variety.
Turning to the small screen, Adams had a shot at series stardom as trauma surgeon Dr. Judith Bergstrom in "Chicago Stories" (NBC, 1982), but the show proved unsuccessful. She tried again the following year with the soap opera "Emerald Point N.A.S." (CBS). Adams had the featured role of Maggie Farrell, a liaison between the military establishment and the base. Longforms have provided her with more meaty roles that allowed her to demonstrate what she learned in her studies with Stella Adler. One of her better roles was as Mala, the multi-lingual Jewess hung for trying to escape Auschwitz, in "Playing for Time" (CBS, 1980). Adams also appeared on the NBC special "Women Who Rate a '10'" (1981) and appeared on "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and other reality series. She has continued to model, often appearing in special theme spreads, still the statuesque beauty.
