... Didn't get to see the first one but based on the other reviews I saw on this movie this must be the 2nd one. The attempt of this movie to be a good one is mediocre to below average for suspense and surprises. A lot of the suspense and psychological tricks used to really great horror movies such as the Hannibal Lector movies or Psycho just aren't apparent here. Instead, a reliance on gore and over the top grossness on the shock value of graphic violence is abundant. Since the main antagonist wears a cover over his face (no spoiler since the movie poster shows him wearing a mask), you can't see the expression on his face on how he enjoys causing and seeing a lot of human destruction.
Most of the horror fans seem to enjoy the gore value of films now, a la Saw series or Silent Hill. The director excels in producing scene after scene of blood and guts. If this type of horror is for you, it is an enjoyable 5 star movie.
Otherwise, if you're looking for horror on the par of Hannibal or Silence of the Lambs, you're better off renting those movies on DVD or Blu-Ray and saving your hard earned $20 (if you're going with a friend or significant other) for a better movie such as Iron Man 3, the JJ Abrams Star Trek sequel, The Wolverine, or Kick #$%$ 2.
