After 1995's Heat Michael Mann does it again with Collateral. It kicks off like any other night for Max. Take people around the city, get another dollar for his his dream business. That's when Max gets his unusual passenger Vincent, who promises him $600 if he takes him to all 5 of his destinations by the end of the evening. Little does Max know that Vincent has a killer agenda, and a suspenseful battle for his sanity begins to unfold. Collateral at a glance seems formulaic but is anything but. Jamie Foxx is exceptional as cab driver Max and the city lights are absolutely astounding. The film keeps the suspense running with plenty of twists all the way to its pulse-pounding conclusion. Perhaps the one issue with this film is the weakest link Cruise who once again shows that despite a great B-cast, he can mess it up with bad acting. All and all, great film for thriller fans (and those who can put up with Tom Cruise for more than two hours).
