This Movie is a Feast that does overload the viewer with a lot of stimulation and information and really offers more than can be digested in one viewing. It certainly is a huge undertaking for the people who chose to bring this story to the screen. Also each of the main actors play five or six different characters in the different time lines and story lines which does make for a lot of complexity.
That being said....Tom Hanks acting ability is truly incredible. Each of his characters are very different and he comes across as being very different in each role...he truly embodies a wide variety of very different characters and does deliver very believable performances that are close to being perfect...where you forget that the character is Tom Hanks. It is obvious that he worked very hard to perfect his craft in this movie. Bravo to Tom.
I feel that it was a huge undertaking to create a story that bridges many different time periods on earth involving a meeting of the different qualities of humanity as well within some of the different time periods. There is a great amount of thought that went into this movie, and some of the things that are spoken are very important messages actually. Some may seem too frivolous, yet there are many thought provoking ideas shared in this movie to the point where it is easy to consider wanting to read the book.... to delve even deeper into the experiences being shown in the film.
Despite much that is not explained about many things that exist in the different parts of this multifaceted story....it is still possible to suspend some of our natural needing to know habits and just take in the movie for what it presents and enjoy it. I feel that there is a bit of that kind of message in this movie....as well.....to simple be okay not knowing....yet still believing that there is something to marvel about related to not knowing, although feeling a common ground, and a connection to all of creation.
It is a feast for the mind, eyes, ears, as it is full of many unusual characters. Makeup and Wardrobe and Sets are amazing. It is rather difficult to figure out all of the different characters played by the main actors, yet they are shown in the credits at the end.
This movie could become a cult classic since it will take several viewings to take it all in and digest each of the elements of this interwoven complex story of how life is all connected to other times in history and in the future simultaneously....and how our choices are affecting each other.
This movie does deal with a lot of very disturbing circumstances that occur in the different lives portrayed in the different story lines. The characters are all dealing with major dramatic challenges throughout the whole film. It does skip back and forth and to and fro throughout the whole film from one story to the next and back again.
I feel that it was my fate to watch this film.
