I have been trying to see this movie since it came out just over a month ago. I was surprised to find that it was only playing in ONE theater near me. By my experience that usually suggests that the movie has done poorly and perhaps could wait for the DVD release. However, I was still excited to see what some reviews called 'visually amazing'. After walking out of the theater, feeling a 'full' sensation of having spent my money on a truly entertaining story, I found that I could not contain my emotions that had obviously been stirred drastically by what I will call...a classic. I have ordered tickets to view this incredible piece once again and am even more excited to see it the second time around.
The movie jumps around quite a bit and if you are not paying close attention- you will miss something. Even if you do miss something, the movie is still very entertaining. Comedy and visuals alone kept my interest peaked, but as the characters started to intertwine...I couldn't wait to get back to each character to see how they will deal with their situations. Passion and empathy are very strong and the acting was amazing. This is by far, the best movie I have watched in years. Sure, if you see an action movie- it may have more action- and if you see a romance- it may have more romance. But this movie has wrapped several movies into one and has done so in a way that has captured my heart and mind.
I saw this movie last night and it still lingers. Walking to my car after seeing this, I could not help the tears that swelled in my eyes. I continue to visualize these characters and how they were connected. I will own this movie the day it is released and have captured the minds of 14 others that will be joining me on my second trip to 'Cloud Atlas'.
The downside- yes there's a downside. This movie is not for everyone. Most, I believe, will not get the plot and be confused when the credits are running. The movie should obtain a strong cult following, as it is highly suggestive of karma and fate and obviously reincarnation of ones' soul. So if you are a thinker or have the slightest thought about having been someone else in a 'past life', then go and see this movie. I guarantee it will touch a part in everyone, but will you get it???
