Brilliant adaptation, but sadly, far over the heads of most movie goers

To appreciate this film one had to relinquish one's addiction to literal and linear thinking, a feat apparently beyond the abilities of many Americans. Still, this was an outstanding adaptation, though taking a slightly different tack from the novel. The ensemble cast dazzled, but Jim Broadbent deserves special praise for his tour de force turn as Timothy Cavendish, an Oscar-worthy performance. Five stars.
