The movie brought up some deep questions-- what is the difference between love and lust. When pleasure-bots become possible will it destroy men's need for women? Are men that shallow? The movie gives us hope.
The plot combines pure sci-fi with action and eroticism. Too spicy for younger viewers, yet not over the edge into soft porn. There was actual character development and psychological evolution of the main characters. The special effects were ahead of their time.
The movie went beyond the simple post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max, and added some human complexity.
Perhaps in another century realistic androids will be developed and we'll get to find out of the male species can reach beyond their hormones. (And if the female species can also get beyond their roles too.)
