A haggard and gruesome rendering ambulance driver

star22

Nicholas Cage plays a neurotic ambulance driver with the expected haggard, deer-in-the-headlights expression he is good at. The story is confusingly ambivalent, portraying Cage wandering through a hellish life as a paramedic trying to make sense out of his life after failing to rescue an obscure woman he is obviously obsessed with (though we never find out details about her) and transfixes his obsessions unto another one whose father is lying in the hospital with a death wish that ultimately gets fulfilled (though nothing else does). This is all surrounded by a chaotic and predictably squalid Manhattan and other ambulance drivers and hospital personnel, all displaying the same inability to cope with the fast-paced life.
