I agree with many of the reviewers that the 1981/82 miniseries was much better than this film, and the miniseries was far more faithful to Waugh's novel. The miniserious cast was also far superior--I mean, Lawrence Olivier as Lord Marchmain, etc.! The story cannot be told in 2 hours. Get the miniseries instead--still available. If you can get the miniseries version narrarated by William F. Buckley, get that one. Bottom line: the film mangles Waugh's novel; the miniseries does not.
