When I first saw the previews for this movie, I was turned off by them. I didnt want to see it because it looked like Merida, the main character would have to kill a bear to prove how brave she was. In fact it was so much different.
The whole family saw it last night, and we loved it. It is a beautiful movie that shows a great message. The message is every decision you make there are consequences and you have to be responsible for them. There was humor, love, family values, lessons learned, and a little bit of magic.
Other reviewers would have you believe that there is dark magic and the main character is a rebel and defy's her mother. There is magic, but almost all Disney movies have some kind of magic. Get over that fact, most fantasy movies have magic, thats what makes them fantasy. Yes she does defy her mother by wanting to choose her own path. Kids are going to rebel sometime in their life. I think what this movie shows is that it is ok to think for yourself, just be prepared to accept the responsibility of the outcome.
Also back in medieval Scotland (and many other places) young royal girls were betrothed to make alliances with other kingdoms/tribes etc. Kids will learn this, sooner or later anyway and it isnt like most societies do this any more. This is a clean, good natured movie and I suggest it to anyone.
