Blade: Trinity(2004)- User Reviews

One geek's opinion

You know, when you call a film, Trinity, isn't there the implication of three parts, taken together to make a greater whole? But if you look at the body of the Blade movies, that simply isn't the case. Each on their own range from good to crummy horror-actioners, but as a trilogy?
The rules and character histories change to suit whatever the current script is, so there's extremely poor continuity between pictures. Vampires go from "get the heart, or it's your @$$" to tumbling like dominoes whenever Blade sets his jaw and looks at them. Also, Hannibal King is described as being a former vampire and his "cure" is mentioned as an afterthought, despite the search for a cure being the near crux of the first movie. This kind of disparity seems odd when you take into account David Goyer, the screenwriter, worked in the comics medium, a place where sequential storytelling and continuity are of utmost priority.
Performance wise, it's not too horrible, Blade isn't a demanding role acting wise and Snipes does a capable job. Ryan Reynolds is amusing as King, though the comedic relief is a bit thick at times. Parker Posey tries to act through the contact lenses and Halloween fangs, but comes across more goofy than scary. And I'd think you'd want a more charismatic actor for the part of Dracula, but what we get is some Ultimate Fighting reject who fails to carry the role.
Sadly, the fight scenes are of the quick-cut, slappy noise kind and don't really distinguish themselves from any other of their recent Matrix-spawned ilk. All in all, Blade Trinity is lousy, and hopefully marks the end of a disappointing "series".
