Eddie murphy performed the best stand up comedy I have ever seen and that was the hilarious delirious, he then stared in a succesful violent action comedy called 48 hrs and then another succesful comedy trading places alongside Dan Ackroyd. Unfortunately he didnt fare too well with his next film best defence which bombed pretty bad, Murphy really needed a hit again and it couldnt have been better than this cop comedy action film which became the biggest blockbuster of 1984 beating such films as the karate kid, ghostbusters and the terminator. Murphy is very cool here as detroit street wise fast talking foul mouthed cop Axel Foley who is in town to see a friend only his friend is gunned down soon after. Axels investigation of his friends murder leads him to glamorous beverly hills where he causes havoc for the police department and the people he believes are responsible for the murder. This is classic fast paced comedy action with a funky soundtrack.
