Terrific movie, great casting, great directing - eloquently charming. All of the characters and the actors - A plus.
The only thing wrong with this movie is that I had to wait too long to see it. It was worth the wait.
I haven't read the other user reviews but I was surprised to see the yahoo user ratings less than 5 stars. Everything about this movie is to love and there is nothing to dislike. Maybe I missed some aspect that I haven't thought of and will read the negative reviews but so far am on board with Beasts.
I was a little sorry to see the health professionals cast in what might be possibly be viewed as a negative light. I think that the movie could have made its point just as well without that. If I find myself it Wink's position, I hope the professionals will be just as sober, earnest, focused, as far as I can tell competent, and motivated by the best intentions and goals. Hurrah for good, nonvenal Docs, nurses etc. Perhaps I missed a point, a factual statement or something else here and will look at that more closely in my next viewings. The same for the relief and emergency folks. I hope Hushpuppy gets to grow up and do just as well as those folks did.
My girlfriend and I are Old South but she had not investigated it before seeing it. She went into it reluctantly with a sort of bad attitude. She was awestruck in 5 minutes and loved it. We saw it twice and will see it again. My Yankee kids loved it too. I hope it is nominated for BP so that I will get to see it in my home town without having to drive 100 miles. (It was worth the drive and I was going anyway.)
Maybe this movie is a one-shot deal for a lot of the first timers in it but even if it is, they can certainly be very proud of a terrific job that will be appreciated by many for a long time.
No one should have to struggle quite so hard to get the lemonade from the lemons but you have to admire those who do it successfully.
See this movie.
I think that they all are going to thrive
