My recommendation for this weekend viewing...the underrated sci-fi "Battleship". About as good an entertainment in the action genre as you will find. Many who are seeing the film are believing. Fun, enjoyable and entertaining.

GREGORY D. GADSON IS SO FREAKING COOL - LOVE THIS GUY. He plays the Army amputee in this movie and he is a REAL soldier in life too. HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS GUY.

Oh oops. Okay..the parts that were worth giving recognition to are the authentic wounded warriors. The true hero's.

saw this movie last night... have to say it was fun and enjoyable... I saw avengers too and avengers for me was kinda slow throughout till the end... this had more of a non-stop action thrill... yes though kind of predictable still it was definitely worth a watch...

      I concur.... battleship is a non-stop action-packed movie. Worth the $10 admission.

In Philippines, the movie released was more than 3wks ago. And we were lucky ones as I watched it twice before the Avengers raking in the box office. "Battleship" is worth watching guys just look on the entertainment value of it with near realistic visual effects!

Non-stop action? The first hour was boring as hell! I mean, overall, I enjoyed the movie, but it was only the last half of the movie that I really enjoyed. (I enjoyed The Avengers better.)

Some of the elements of this movie were very good. It would have been nice if they had cut the cheese, and devoted that wasted time to filling in some of the blanks in the story. I wanted this movie to be a five star, and some parts were, but overall, it was only worth a two star.

The special effects were great, the aliens were great, the story line could have been great, if there weren't such huge holes.

movie is powerful just like INDEPENDENCE DAY, WAR OF THE WORLDS, ETC ETC. when we have forces coming against our planet....it makes us realize that short time we are in the movie theater is that we are all in this together.......

Not sure what he means for sure on his review(Dao) as the 70yo Battleship was updated during the Reagan administration and had new weapons systems and EW gear installed. (Tomahawk and Harpoon Missiles, some updated radar and electronics, but there is no more powerful gun even today that those that remain on those battleships. And removing ammo is done, but some ships, as well as some aircraft, when is storage like this, are still able to to be ready quickly for duty again. (Not as quick as the movie has it), but it's a movie for fun, I hope nobody believes in anything being possible like Transformers) But those cannon shells, were said to pretty much devastate city blocks from on barrel. So it would pack a punch. But several ships and aircraft are close to operational use that are in storage or museums. I used to give tours and talk about some of them in my past, and the number of days for all that. The majority are not, but the ones with possible use, are kept serviceable, and not much packs the punch or is as impressive as one of these battlewagons. Tourists also do not get to the areas of munitions or sensitive areas anyway and they are secured. The Black Guy was fine, ever see anybody in his condition, and you understand not all are just people again and need a purpose. The movie part was showing his resolve to show he had accepted his condition and would still live on with a purpose. Some people need a purpose to move on and live everyday. There really wasn't a mother ship as the reviewer mentioned too, it was more of what we would call a central command ship but was bigger and meaner than the others around it, like our battlegroups are in the Navy now. It had more firepower and abilities and those were not shown as much until the end of the movie. Movie made lots of sense to me, the barrier was to stop a lot of communications going on with our forces to each other. I just think the reviewer did not have a good concept of military operations. I was in over 21.5 years and helped plan some things, so maybe my perception is different in having access and flying on some sensitive aircraft, and reviewing weapon systems, and how to engage an opponent. But I and people around me loved it, I've seen it twice and plan on one more time before I buy it on Blueray and HOPE for an extended edition. I liked it better than any of the transformer movies, and I liked those a good deal. I hope this helps from a movie buff and military perspective, but if you like action and want some good action scenes I highly recommend it. I have more people going this week now since I have described it to them.

Excellent comment Razorback, I found your information facinating. I personally have not served but was enthralled in the Airforce as a lad. So does Mo have ordinance onboard? In the event she is called to duty? I was surprise how low the battleship sits in the water...was that accurately depicted in the movie?

      Movie Critic,
The Battleship, Missouri is an Iowa class battleship, and as a floating museum, it carries no munitions or fuel. It would take over a year in a repair facility to bring her up to war fight trim.

      Razorback,
The Battleships Iowa, New Jersey, and Wisconsin were upgraded about 15 or 20 years ago. Afterwards, the Iowa had and explosion on board in the number one gun turret. It was repaired at a cost of about $35M, and shortly thereafter it was retired to the reserve fleet and it was later to become a museum, along with the New Jersey and the Wisconsin. The Battleship Missouri has been a floating museum since about 1950. And none of these ships will ever be brought back for service. For one thing, the U.S. can't afford to revive and operate them. And the engines are the old style fuel oil burners; not nuclear. When the ships were built they had to build the ship around the engines because of their size. Check the specs. They are on the internet.

Im intrested in the scene where it showed all the " old salts" prepping the ship. Now were they all real veterans? Can anyone confirm?

All these movies are fast and loud. To pick one out of the bunch and say it is louder than others you liked is in itself ridiculous and shows you may have an alternative reason. Transformers. LOL. try again. Battleship the film was Awesome in every respect, that is if your talking summer popcorn movies.

If you liked the movie let your friends know and encourage them to go see it and lets help make this exciting patriotic American film successful if for no other reason than to smash face those ant-military film critics who seem to be engrossed with crude, sexual, vulgar comedies which they rate four stars.

AND MARVEL'S THE THE AVENGERS IS realistic HOW IS THAT?

Marvel movie makers should produce the thor vs surtur saga and start the brothers three saga as to villi, vi, and odin --trip to muspelhem and the twilight sword and eternal flame and box of winters and thor's
hammer to transport into the valley of death and restoration of asgard would dramatically dwarf both new movies if produced right!!!!!!!!!

The story line at least makes sense.

WoW! I was NOT expecting it to be that good, but it FAR EXCEEDED expectations. If you like movies like Independence Day, then odds are you'll like this movie too. It's cool because they also use real Navy personal. It had decent comedy in it too, could have been funnier, but it didn't hurt the movie. A few cheesy things, but who cares, it's a blockbuster. Honestly, I think I liked it better than Avengers, but it's a tough call.

What are Navy "personal"? Oh, BTW, 'Independence Day' sucked.....
    • Dreambackhome 6 days ago
I agree with you. It far exceeded my expectation. They guys in the theater with me were pretty excited about what they saw too. Certainly it is NOT a boring movie.

GregoryP, one thing I've learned about losers in life is that #1 - They go on to chat rooms, forums, blogs, etc..., just so they can correct people - the best is when they go on to correct people's spelling - now you have to really have NO life to be doing that stuff, and #2 - they try to bring other people down. DO US ALL A FAVOR AND GO AWAY LOSER.

I haven't seen it yet, but based on all the comments, it's obvious that this is going to be one of those movies that you are really going to like, or really going to hate. I say if you were originally planning on seeing it, then take the chance and go see it (I wil be)...Even if the movie stinks, it won't be the first time ive thrown away money going to a movie and it sure wont be the last time. Not to mention its an alien movie so Im sure not expecting an oscar worthy screenplay or storyline either. If nothing else, seeing that Industrial Light and Magic are behind the effects, it should provide some pretty cool eye candy and be a decent popcorn fiick...

This movie is a "must see" . Avengers is good, but I think this one is better.

"Battleship". Lets hope that the good word of mouth by those that have seen it will get a lot more people out to check it out. A patriotic movie such as this needs to be successful at the box office. I suppose the wallet is empty after all those return trips to "The Avengers" but hey, this weekend is Memorial Day and maybe more people will come out and support the film.
  • RepMan...  •  3 days ago
"Battleship" is just as good as the Avengers. Critics tend to choose and pick and therefore shouldn't be trusted not when they are critiquing action movies. Go check BATTLESHIP out yourself. Many are finding it an AWESOME movie.
  • RepMan...  •  5 days ago
Hopefully the fanboys will get their fill of the comic book craze "The Avengers" after five or six times viewing it and go see "Battleship: this memorial day weekend. I thought "Battleship" was pretty good.

Why are people giving a SCIENCE FICTION movie low rating because it wasnt realistic? To me that means you dont like science fiction films, because it is fiction and it involves aliens...so i expect it to be unrealistic. Ive seen bad sci-fi films (skyline was horrific) but this was what i expected. LOVE IT!!!!! I think critics who like drama and oscar films shouldnt rate sci-fi actions films, because they dont watch those kind of movies....that is why these type of movies are only rated for the effects, not the depth and intrigue. DUH!
