Away We Go(2009)- User Reviews

Bound to be one of the best of the year!

I love this film! I love it's humorous and sometimes morbid approach to what true love and happiness looks like. The blistering laughs are puncuated by moments or realization, sad reality checks if you will, that make us aware of just how delicate a thing caring for somebody else more then you do yourself can be. I'm not at all familiar with the two leads, to me they are just a young couple preparing for parenthood and striving to make a life for themselves, while in the process.. they re-affirm their love for one another. With Away We Go, Director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road To Perdition) does the exact opposite of what he did with last year's Revolutionary Road, he inspires hope. I personally find it hard to imagine finding someone I would want to spend the rest of my life with, but when I watch a film like this.. I don't find it so incomprehensible. I felt no such hope watching Revolutionary Road, which paints a very bleak picture of what marriage inevitably becomes. Several oddball characters appear throughout this film, all of whom are a lot of fun, particularly a fanatical nutjob played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. This is the best film I have seen this year, I hope it will get some recognition when the time comes.
