I see no need to retell the story since so many have already.

I loved the luscious english countryside,the flowers,the people,the wildlife....i half expected beatrix potter to appear.
I loved the mansion with all the period toys,furniture even the highchair.
i loved the scenes of london.uncrowded streets,prams,english buses,nurses dressed as nurses were,men removing hats in public.

i did not love the scenes of dunkirk.sure,i know about dunkirk but doubt the audiences really do and i think it could have been explained much better.the drunken debauchery of the stranded soldiers was another swipe at our heroes by the pc crowd.i also think the rescue of these troops would have added to the movie.

but this movie,at least for me,does strike the question of just how is it possible for one to forgive oneself for a life altering mistake?Unlike other reviewers i do think briony is more than sorry (after all the title is atonement) and has finally found what works for her.
we have to find ours.
