Though I anticipated this movie based on Zwigoffs’ output (Crumb, Ghost World, even Bad Santa), the reviews by Yahoo users put me off. But as usual most of them were wrong. ****.com on...I can't think of anything that's come out of Hollywood, yet won the Best Picture Oscar, that was even close to being as entertaining as this.
It wasn't perfect but if you've had any experience with art schools or that crowd much of it rings true, in a very funny manner. The murder mystery subplot, though possibly unnecessary was fun and provided another look at the hypocrisy of the art world. None of the characters are innocent; they all have warts and beauty. It really captures both the beauty and horror of the art world from a young artists perspective without sticking it's nose up in the air.
