Sorry, this is NOT a great film and should not have been an oscar winner. It's just been a really lean year in Hollywood. It makes me angry that "The Impossible" starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts wasn't nominated for best film. (Naomi Watts was nominated for best actress, but obviously didn't win, although she definitely deserved to win).
Argo was OK, but I felt no real emotions watching the movie. The performances were OK, including Ben Afflack, but again, nothing powerful, as you would want to see in a film with a subject matter like this one.
The script had holes in it, and didn't quite gel for me. The direction was nothing special (sorry Ben Afflack), and when the people actually escaped Iran in the end, I was mildly happy, but realized that this really is a forgettable movie.
