On one hand, there were enough nerdy in-jokes to keep my father, an astronaut fanatic, entertained: the Russian lander was true to the unlaunched design and the landing error codes were something they had to sort out on Apollo 11 (and had by 12) but on the other, there are few things in common with the folks who actually got to lunar ground. It goes from being amazingly-well-filmed even for the iPhone era to obligatory jump-scare shots of a sleeping guy: on the moon or in Detroit, if someone stood over me while I slept with a camera in my face, I'd be getting out a hammer, too. (Though the rock-lobster/ face-hugger/ SPIIIIDERS* seem a pretty good cure from sleep apnea...)
*Yes, Lost in Space will leave a bigger impact in the long run.
Though not without its gross-out factors, (say it with me, Hollywood: analgesics and anesthetics;) the slow build was mostly time to discuss how amazing the real-life missions were, considering that we did get everyone from 2 through 17 back home and considering real-life adaptive traits, in the event of moon rock monsters that live in a totally different atmosphere? We will be fine.
