I went to this film expecting to like it and was roundly disappointed.
The filmmakers obviously felt that how they told the story was way more important than the story itself. Tolstoy's work deserves better.
The production values were high. But, I was (I imagine intentionally) continuously confronted by the filmmakers with images that drove me away... that would not allow me to care about the story or the characters... and left me wondering what all this meant.
This is truly one of the most off-putting films I have ever seen.
