Anna Karenina(2012)- User Reviews

Everywhere she looks...

star33

Everywhere she looks, she looks for him. Her glance, scans and follows every movement in a room,in a dance salon,at a train station,in hopes that it will be him. Anna is playing a dangerous game of hunt and seek. Her strict tight lipped husband,of imperial Russian stock is no romantic match for her carefree companion whom she desires. The two meet in secret, even tho all know of their liaison, even her husband seems to give silent consent to the affair. The two lovers are absorbed in themselves as they purposely block out other, more truer loves.
From the start of the film it is difficult to sort out whether it is a movie of humor, drama,a staged play,is a piece of history, elegant opulence or an object d'arte. Yet it is none of the above and all of the above at once.It is very much a dizzying whirlwind,of unfinished dream sequences. Opening and closing ornate doors help to set the staging of scenes as Anna and her bi-polar persona unravel.
Because everywhere and everywhere she looks and searches for him.
