Can't see what the 5-star raters see in this film ... maybe they had a little too much to drink?
I went in expecting a fine performance. I was sorely disappointed by a movie that I thought was, generally speaking, poorly acted, hot or miss in the film editing, and was frankly the worst performance by screen writer Tom Stoppard that I have ever seen, and I am a big Stoppard fan. FOr the first time he has let me down -- not by the concept, which was fairly unique and COULD have been good, perhaps, but turned out to be a terrible decision.
Keira Knightley LOOKED good. Her acting was stilted and lacked depth. I wasn't sure, however, whether it was just bad acting, or by design to fit into a bad script under bad direction. Jude Law's character was too one dimensional for my sake. I thought we got too nucg sympathy for Vronsky -- but the acting was good, just the choices made regarding him by the screenplay or the director weren't great.
Anyone who thinks this film gets Oscar nods for anything other than cinematography is high on something other than the movie experience. I'd rate this 1.5 out of 5.
