Overall the film is rather somber without being poignant. There are many missed opportunities for humorous moments.
The good: The cheesy rides, backgrounds and props shown throughout the movie are very enjoyable if you like 1980s nostalgia. I was pleasantly surprised by the acting of Kristen Stewart (who I didn't like much in "Twilight") and Jesse Eisenberg (an unknown to me).
The bad: Disconnected, shallow storyline that doesn't really go anywhere and doesn't make a point.
The tricky: Direction. Director Greg Mottola probably deserves much credit for Stewart's better performance in "Adventureland" compared to her performance in "Twilight." The location filming was well-shot, with careful placement of extras, backgrounds and props. Why couldn't Mottola orchestrate a more cohesive, meaningful and/or humorous story? It's one of those frustrating "almost but not quite" films.
