I never go into movie theaters expecting too much because i am often disappointed according to my expectations. I love Beatles music, but i am not a die hard fan, so i admittedly did not know a number of the songs in the film. I hadn't heard of most of the actors either, and I'm generally not a big fan of the 60's culture and Vietnam stories.
This movie completely hatched out any doubts i might have had going in (there weren't MANY doubts, i was admittedly quite excited). I sat through the entire film with eyes, ears, and mouth wide open. The visuals were spectacular, and something about the film made me believe that everything was that colorful during the 60s. I even wanted to say psychadelic a few times, but i refrained.
My only one tiny issues is that i might have put someone else in to play Lucy's part just because (although i love ERW) the part required for someone a little bit less all-the-time intense-face and a few nanosteps towards vulnurability. But that only takes away .05 points from the 165774 points that i give this movie. I fell in love with Jude's and Max's character (although Joe's accent peaked through a few times, it was cute) and the random bursts of famous faces made it a fun and surprising delight. Who know Bono would make such an awesome American dirty old man?
If you love music/musicals, color, the Beatles, English people or things, the 60's, flowers, drugs (mainly things like acid), hippies, or any of the above in any combination or related matters, PLEASE see this film. it won't disappoint you. Don't listen to the critics or the bitter people who don't have this movie playing in their city. that's not the movie's fault.
p.s. i never write reviews. but this movie was seriously good enough to let the world know about.
