I just finished watching "A Very Long Engagement" and thought it was great. Set in France in 1920, it was a charming, emotional, romantic tear-jerker that reminded me of the kinds of movies made in the 1940's. It got just a little confusing at times following the subtitles (it's a french movie), but it was such a sensitive, moving flick that I didn't even notice that it was more than two hours long.
I just wish these kinds of movies were made in the US. It seems that lately the only movies that come out of hollywood are violent car smashers or teens being bad. in other words, shallow, simplistic crap. (And people actually get paid to come up with crap).
A Very Long Engagement is memorable. It's definately worth viewing.
